Noor Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what Noor saves, what happens when you use an online feature, and how you can make choices about your information.
The short version
- You do not need a Noor account. Noor has no advertising or analytics, no payment feature, and we do not sell your personal information.
- Your settings, bookmarks, notes and learning progress are mainly saved on your device.
- Online features send the information needed to return the Quran, Hadith, audio or learning content you ask for. The services involved also receive normal connection information, such as an IP address.
- Recitation practice uses your device's Apple or Google speech service. Noor's native practice does not send your recording or recognised words to Noor.
- You can manage individual items in Noor. For a complete local reset, use your device's app-data controls or uninstall the app. See Remove your Noor data for the exact steps.
Who we are
Noor is provided by Generatic Ltd, company number 16628855. Our registered office is Flat 16 Novello House, Stoke Road, Slough, England, SL2 5BW.
For privacy questions or requests, email privacy@generatic.co.uk. For app help, email support@generatic.co.uk. Security concerns can be reported to security@generatic.co.uk.
Information saved on your device
Noor saves information on your device so that your choices and progress are there when you return. This includes:
- your language, theme, script, reciter and other settings;
- your last reading position and Mushaf page;
- bookmarks, private notes and saved Hadith;
- Hifz selections, practice results and a limited history of attempts;
- Wird goals and progress;
- words you have opened, including the number of times and date;
- Hadith notification choices, recent Hadith and a random rotation identifier; and
- downloaded Surah text, words, the Surah list and your selected translation.
This information normally stays until you remove it, uninstall Noor, or your operating system clears the app's storage. Noor does not have one in-app button that erases every category at once.
When Noor connects online
Noor needs an internet connection to fetch content that is not already on your device. It sends the details needed for your request, such as the Surah, Ayah, page, translation, Tafsir, word, audio, search words or Hadith language you selected.
Quran and Hadith searches are sent to Noor. A Quran search is passed to Quran Foundation so matching verses can be returned. Search words can reveal a religious interest, so they are used to answer the search rather than to build an advertising profile.
Your device may also connect directly to Quran audio, word-audio and Quran-font services, MP3Quran, Apple or Google speech services, and a page you choose to open outside Noor. QUL/Tarteel supplies IndoPak display resources, while its static-cdn.tarteel.ai host supplies the Surah-name font directly to your device. Noor and these services receive normal connection details needed to answer a request, which can include an IP address, the requested address, timing, and standard device or network information. Their own privacy terms also apply when your device contacts them.
Noor does not contain advertising or analytics software, and we do not use these requests for behavioural advertising.
Hadith of the Day
To rotate Hadith without repeatedly showing the same entries, Noor creates a random identifier on your device. It is not your name, email address or an advertising ID. Noor sends it with your Hadith schedule, interface language, time zone and schedule version. The live record also keeps a limited recent history.
The active record expires after 90 days without Hadith activity. When Clear Hadith data succeeds, Noor removes the active service record and clears local Hadith history, saved items, schedule and notification information. It then creates a new random identifier. A safety marker made from the old identifier may remain for up to 90 days so an earlier request cannot recreate the deleted record. The marker contains no Hadith, schedule or reading history. Clearing the active record does not promise that every infrastructure backup changes at the same moment.
Microphone and speech recognition
Noor asks for microphone permission only when you start recitation practice. On iPhone and iPad, it also asks for speech-recognition permission. You can decline or later turn these permissions off and continue to read, listen, bookmark, take notes and track Hifz manually.
Practice uses the Apple or Google speech service supplied by your operating system. Depending on your device, language and settings, that service may send audio to its own systems. Its privacy terms and device controls apply. The Noor practice flow does not upload the recording or recognised words to Noor. It compares the recognised words with the selected Ayah in the app. If you save a Hifz result, that derived result is stored on your device.
How and why we use information
We use information only for the feature you choose, to remember your local choices, and to keep the service reliable and safe. In practice, that means we use it to:
- return the Quran, Hadith, audio, translation, Tafsir or word information you request;
- keep your settings and learning progress on your device;
- maintain the Hadith schedule and avoid recent repeats;
- compare recognised words during recitation practice; and
- diagnose failures, limit harmful traffic and protect the service.
Data-protection law requires a valid lawful reason for each use. The reason and any additional protection needed for information that reveals religious interests depend on the particular feature and circumstances. We do not use religious interests for advertising or create an advertising profile. You can ask privacy@generatic.co.uk about the basis applying to a particular request.
Who receives information
Information may be handled by Generatic Ltd and by the organisations needed to deliver the feature you choose:
- Quran Foundation/Quran.com and QDC for Quran text, search, pages, Tajweed, translations, Tafsir, timings, fonts and audio;
- QuranEnc and Quran MCP for word-learning information;
- MP3Quran for selected recitation streams;
- QUL/Tarteel for IndoPak display resources and, through
static-cdn.tarteel.ai, the Surah-name font; - Noor's service prepares the Hadith catalogue from source material that includes HadeethEnc;
- infrastructure companies that carry and host Noor's online service; and
- Apple or Google when you use operating-system speech recognition.
That server-side catalogue preparation is separate from a source page you open yourself. Your device contacts HadeethEnc or Sunnah.com only when you choose a Hadith source link. It contacts IslamOnline or Generatic's main website only when you choose the relevant external link. We may also share information where the law requires it or where reasonably necessary to protect people and the service. See Where Noor's content comes from for a feature-by-feature guide.
International transfers
Some content, infrastructure and platform providers operate outside the UK or may process connection information in other countries. The country and protection available can depend on the provider, your device and the feature you choose. Direct connections to Apple, Google and pages you open yourself are also governed by those organisations' terms.
We do not state that one transfer safeguard covers every provider. You can email privacy@generatic.co.uk to ask where a particular Noor service processes information and what protection applies to that transfer.
How long information is kept
- Information on your device stays there until you remove an available item, use your device's app-data controls, uninstall Noor, or the operating system clears it.
- Downloaded Quran text and learning content becomes invalid six days after download and is removed the next time Noor reads it. You can remove it sooner in Settings → Offline Reading. This six-day period does not cover streamed chapter audio or runtime fonts.
- Temporary copies of public Quran and Hadith responses can remain in Noor's service cache for up to six days.
- Active Hadith rotation information expires after 90 days without Hadith activity. The safety marker described above may remain for up to 90 days after clearing.
- Connection, error and security records may be kept by the services that handle a request. Their exact periods depend on the deployed service and the provider. Ask us for the current information if this matters to your request.
Your choices and legal rights
You can change Noor's settings, turn microphone and speech permissions off, remove individual bookmarks and notes, unmark Hifz items, remove saved Hadith, clear Hadith data, remove Quran downloads and uninstall Noor. Unmarking a Hifz item does not erase its attempt history; a complete local reset requires your device's app-data controls or uninstalling the app.
Depending on the circumstances and the law that applies, you may have rights to ask for access to personal information, correct it, erase it, restrict its use, receive a portable copy, or object to its use. Where a use depends on your consent, you can withdraw that consent. These rights are not absolute, and we will explain if an exception applies. Email privacy@generatic.co.uk to make a request.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. Its guidance and contact details are at ico.org.uk. If you are outside the UK, you may also have the right to contact your local data-protection authority.
Automated learning feedback
Noor may compare recognised words with an Ayah and show a learning result. It does not make legal, employment, credit or other similarly significant decisions about you. Recognition can be incomplete or wrong, so use the result as learning support rather than Tajweed certification.
Children's privacy
Noor has no age gate and younger readers may use it. Noor does not use advertising or create advertising profiles. A parent or guardian should help a younger user understand microphone and speech permissions, external links and data-removal controls. If you have a concern about a young person's information, email privacy@generatic.co.uk.
Keeping information safe
We use technical and organisational measures intended to protect the Noor service and limit information to what a feature needs. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. Please do not put passwords, authentication codes or other secrets in bookmark notes or support messages. Report a suspected security problem to security@generatic.co.uk.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page and its date when the way Noor handles information changes materially. Where appropriate, we will also explain an important change in the app.
